Additional information

The hydrolysis of the substance 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl acetate as a function of pH and temperature was studied in accordance with OECD TG 111 under GLP. Tier 2 tests of the experiments showed that the hydrolysis reaction did not follow pseudo first order kinetics and that the rate of the reaction was dependent on the starting concentration. The estimated half-life of hydrolysis at 25 °C for initial concentrations of 8 and 0.8 mg/L was 4.49 to 142 days at pH 4, 20.6 and 650 days at pH 7 and 6.85 and 12.2 days at pH 9. The results of the study show that abiotic hydrolysis of 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl acetate may contribute to the degradation of the substance in the environment, but that the importance of this abiotic degradation is significantly depending on the starting concentration of the substance and the environmental conditions. Other information on the abiotic degradation of the substance in the environment is not available.
