Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in apporpriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Several studies on the toxicity of Beta-Ionon to microorganisms are available. The key information is given by a study following OECD 209 and ISO 8192. Changes in the respiration rate induced by the substance in activated sludge was tested. After 180 minutes an EC50 of 100 - 200 mg/l was determined (Givaudan, 1991). Two other studies according to ISO DIS 8192, part B, draft 1984 by BASF showed EC20 and EC50 values of about 1000 mg/L (BASF AG 1988).

A study on Pseudomonas putida performed according to Robra, 1976 (GWF-Wasser/Abwasser 117, 80-86) detected an EC50 > 1000 mg/l after 30 minutes (BASF AG, 1988).
