DIMETHYLISOPROPYLAMINE (DMIPA)

has been found to be harmful to fish (LC50_96h of 31.6 mg/L), to daphnia (EC50_48h of 38.4 mg/L) and to microorganisms ( EC50_17h of 48.2 mg/L). In addition, DMIPA can be considered as toxic to algae (ErC50_72h of 5.38 mg/L). Nevertheless, when the test solutions of DMIPA were neutralized, no effect was observed at the highest concentration tested (100 mg/L) in fish and EC50 was determined to be > 62.5 mg/L in daphnia. These results suggest that the toxicity of DMIPA is more related to the increase of the medium pH but not to a specific mode of toxic action. A long-term toxicity test has been performed on daphnia and a NOEC reproduction of 1.73 mg/L was obtained during this test.
