Description of key information
The 30-minute EC50 was determined to be between 100-1000 mg/l. The NOEC was found to be 100 mg/l.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for microorganisms:
- 100 mg/L
- EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
- 100 mg/L
Additional information
A study was carried out to determine the effect of hexyl acetate on the respiration of activated sewage sludge. The study was carried out according to OECD 209. Activated sewage sludge was exposed to an aqueous dispersion of hexyl acetate at concentrations of 10, 100, and 1000 mg/l (3 replicates at 1000 mg/l) for a period of 30 minutes. The 30 minute test time was used due to the volatile nature of the substance. Test temperature was 20 ± 2oC. Synthetic sewage was added as a respiratory substrate. The rate of respiration was determined after the 30 minutes exposure time and compared to data from the control. Control solutions with inoculum and a reference substance, 3,5 -dichlorophenol, were used for validation purposes.
The 30-minute EC50value was found to be between 100 and 1000 mg/l. The 30-minute no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was found to be 100 mg/l. The reference item gave a 30-minute EC50 of 12 mg/l with 95% confidence limits of 10 -14 mg/l.
