Additional information

Chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) is a colourless gas from odourless to faint ethereal odour which melts at -158°C (NIOSH, 2002) and boils in the range -26.2°C (The Beilstein database, Miller - 1951 ) - -26.8°C (The Beilstein database, Henne - 1948).

The relative density is 1.305 at 20°C ( Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary (12th Edition), 1993), the vapour pressure is 612 kPa at 25°C (NIOSH, 2002), the estimated Log Kow: 1.65 (KOWIN v1.67a, EPISUITE v4.00).

The water solubility, evaluated in a closed system and with the atmosphere saturated with the gas, is 380 mg/L (Oriani et al., 2001).

The auto-ignition temperature of CTFE is 566°C at 73.6 PSIA (5.01 atm) and it is an extremely flammable gas having a range in air in percent by volume of 24 - 40.3% (NIOSH, 2002; the Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials (Ed. 6th), 1984 and the Condensed Chemical Dictionary (Ed. 9th), 1977).
