Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Acutely toxic for aquatic invertebrates.
EC50 (48 h) = 24 mg/L (Daphnia magna, OECD TG 202)
Data from the structural analogue: EC50 (48 h) = 5.2 mg/L (meas.) (Daphnia magna, OECD TG 202)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the results of an OECD guideline 202 study the test substance is acutely harmful to Daphnia magna with an EC50 (48 h) of 24 mg/L based on nominal test concentrations (Dow 1992). Since the test substance is readily biodegradable, any toxicity study without analytical monitoring is of restricted reliability. Therefore, data from the structural analogue 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate was also taken into consideration. In a study according to OECD TG 202, an EC50 of 5.2 mg/L based on measured concentrations of HEA was determined after 48 hours of exposure (MOE Japan, 1998).

Based on this result the test substance is assessed to be acutely toxic for aquatic invertebrates.
