Description of key information

No effect observed at the highest concentration tested (134 mg/L): DEHA can be considered as not harmful to fish.

The acute toxicity of N,N-Diethylhydroxylamine was evaluated with the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 203 and GLP requirements. Mortality in control, temperatures, pH range and dissolved oxygen concentration were reported and were in agreement with the guideline requirements. The fish were exposed to nominal test concentrations between 16 and 120 mg/L under static conditions (daily renewal) during 96 hours. The measured concentrations ranged from approximately 108 to 113% of nominal concentrations of DEHA. The method used for the analysis of DEHA in medium samples was Method 8140, Iron Reduction Method for Oxygen Scavengers (Hach Company). It is not mentioned that the Hach test is able to discriminate between DEHA and its degradation product (the nitrone). LC50-96 h was determined to be higher than 134 mg/L, the highest concentration tested, based on mean measured concentrations. All the validity criteria were fulfilled.
