Description of key information

Abiotic degradation


Triethoxy(3-thiocyanatopropyl)silane (CAS 34708-08-2; EC No. 252-161-3) has a hydrolysis half-life of 23 hours at 25°C and pH 7 (measured).


 


The hydrolysis products are (3-thiocyanatopropyl)silanetriol and ethanol (CAS 64-17-5; EC No. 200-578-6).


 


Half-lives of 0.5 days and 0.7 days for reaction with hydroxyl radicals in air have been calculated for triethoxy(3-thiocyanatopropyl)silane and (3-thiocyanatopropyl)silanetriol, respectively.


 


Biotic degradation


53% biodegradation in 28 days was attained in a reliable ready biodegradation study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol, and in compliance with GLP. This biodegradation is attributable to the biodegradation of the ethanol hydrolysis product, which is readily biodegradable (OECD 2004). No significant biodegradation is expected for the silanol hydrolysis product.


 


It is not necessary to obtain further information on biodegradation via simulation tests in water, sediment or soil.

Half-life for reaction with hydroxyl radicals in air: 0.5 days for the parent substance and 0.7 days for the silanol hydrolysis product (calculated).
