Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acute tests evaluating the toxicity of isononanoic acid, C16-18 alkyl esters (CAS 111937-03-2) to fish and aquatic invertebrates are available. No effects on either fish and algae were observed up to the limit of water solubility limit (< 0.05 mg/L). Moreover, a chronic test with Daphnia magna did not result in any effects on reproduction up to the limit of water solubility and no immobility was observed as well. Isononanoic acid, C16-18 alkyl esters did not cause inhibition of respiration in a study according to OECD 209 with activated sludge microorganisms (EC10 (3 h) > 1000 mg/L). Thus, the overall potential to cause inhibition of activated sludge microorganisms is low and significant inhibition of the subsequent degradation process in sewage treatment plants is not expected. Long-term toxicity with fish was not deemed necessary. As there were no effects observed up to the limit of water solubility in any of the different acute and chronic toxicity tests for three trophic levels, it is to be expected that a long term test with fish will not show different results then the available long-term test with aquatic invertebrates. Thus, based on the above mentioned results, it can be excluded that the substance will exhibit chronic toxicity to fish up to the limit of water solubility and no further long-term test with fish was proposed.
