Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

MMH had a nominal 96h-LC50 of 2.58 mg/L in Lebistes reticulatus (a.k.a. Poecilia reticulata: guppy) in a static test. Without analytical follow-up, due to volatility of the undiluted item, this value is likely an overestimate of the actual LC50.

MMH, tested in another static assay in two fish species over 96h, with analytical follow-up, was characterized by LC50:

- between 1.1 and 2.1 mg/L based on measured concentrations, for golden shiner;

- of 3.54 mg/L based on nominal values (overestimate), for channel catfish.

Both studies were Klimisch 4 due to several deviations or missing data, however data in three different fish species, in two independent assays, show a very consistent result: a steep dose-lethality curve with a 96h-LC50 between 1.1 (measured geometrical mean value) and 3.5 (nominal) mg/L. This knowledge is considered largely sufficient for classification and risk assessment in view of the much lower EC50 values obtained in more recent tests in algae and daphnids, showing that fish is by far not the most sensitive trophic level.
