Description of key information

Vinyl 2-ethylhexanoate is practically not toxic by the oral, dermal and inhalation routes of exposure in laboratory animals. The acute rat oral LD50 was 4.76 - 8.30 grams/kg of body weight. The acute rat 4 hr inhalation LC50 was greater than that of substantially saturated vapor. The acute dermal LD50 was > 13.92 grams/kg of body weight.

Additional information

For males rats the acute oral LD50 = 9.54 ml/kg; For females the LD50 = 5.47 ml/kg; No significant lesions observed from microscopic evaluation. Vinyl 2 -ethylhexanoate is of low acute toxicity to laboratory rats by the oral routes of exposure.

None of the 10 rats male and female exposed to vinyl 2 -ethylhexanoate had any deaths or observed toxic effects. Vinyl 2-ethylhexanoate is practically nontoxic via inhalation of substantially saturated vapor.

Two groups of rats (five males and five females/group) were dermally exposed to Vinyl 2 -ethylhexanoate (16.0 and 8.0 ml/kg per group) under occlusion for 24 hr. The observation period was 14 days.The application of vinyl 2 -ethylhexanoate at doses of 16.0 and 8.0 ml/kg to skin of rat for 24 hr produced an LD50 of >16.0 ml/kg.

No classification and labeling required for acute toxicity hazard based on available data and EU regulatory established limits (EU Directive 67/548/EEC and the CLP, Directive EC 1272/2008 16 December 2008).
