Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of cyclohexylamine to aquatic invertebrates (Dapnia magna) was tested according to OECD TG 202. After 48 hours of exposure an EC50 of 36.3 mg/L was obtained (MITI, 1997).

Additional information

The present test was conducted without pH adjustment and pH values significantly increased (up to pH values of 10.1) with increasing test item concentrations. Concluding, it is assumed that observed effects are exclusively caused by the prevailing pH values. Supportive, acute toxicity tests towards fish (MITI, 1997) observed no adverse effects performing tests in neutralized media at a test item concentration of 100 mg/L. The present study was used in the scope of environmental risk assessment as it shows that the pH is the crucial factor determining adverse effects towards aquatic life rather than the presence of the test item itself. Concluding, there is no risk of underestimating the environmental hazard using that study and environmental hazards of the test item towards aquatic life are adequately assessed.
