Description of key information

In a standardised ready biodegradability screening study (Rudio 1996), no toxicity was observed in an inhibition control at a test concentration of 100 mg/L. This concentration can be considered as a NOEC for the toxicity to STP microorganisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In the biodegradation study, the curves obtained with the reference substance alone and with the test substance + reference substance showed no toxic effect of the test substance to the microorganisms at the test concentration of 100mg/L. Furthermore, aldehyde C12 MNA was shown to be readily biodegradable at this test concentration (68% after 22 days, with the 10 day window criterion met), which also supports lack of toxicity to micro-organisms at the test concentration of 100mg/L.

Degradation of the reference substance, aniline, exceeded 60 % after 14 days. The activity of the inoculum was thus verified and the test is considered valid.
