Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

One study on the toxicity to microorganisms according to OECD guideline 209 is available (Bader, U. 1988). No inhibition on the respiratory could be observed (IC50 > 100 mg/L). The results are supported by a study (Epstein et al. 1967) on the toxicity to Tetrahymena pyrifos (ID50 = 640 mg/L).

Therefore, the EC 50 of > 100 mg/L was used for the derivation of the PNEC corresponding to the maximal nominal concentration tested in the OECD guideline study.
