Additional information

The ready biodegradability of cyclohexyl methacrylate was investigated in several studies.

 

In a CO2-Headspace test according to ISO 14593 which is identical to OECD 310 (Ready Biodegradability – CO2 in sealed vessels) cyclohexyl methacrylate was readily biodegradable. The inoculum used in this study was activated sludge from a laboratory wastewater plant treating municipal sewage. The assay was conducted at test substance concentration of 28 mg/L equivalent of 20 mg/L TOC. After 28 days, a biodegradation degree of 70 - 80 % (TIC/ThIC) was determined (BASF SE, 2004)

 

In a CO2-evolution test according to OECD-guideline 301B using predominantly domestic sludge and 42 mg/L test material (=10 mg/L TOC) only 20 % biodegradation was observed after 28 days (Evonik Roehm, 2000).

 

Furthermore, in a MITI-I-Test (OECD 301C) 78 % degradation after 28 days was measured (JETOC, 1992).

 

In conclusion, cyclohexyl methacrylate is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
