Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH (Regulation 1907/2006/EC) Annex IX, a simulation test in soil does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable. The half-life in soil of 30 days is therefore as a worst-case be based on the default half-lives for (Bulk) soil according to REACH guidance R.16 using the observed Koc of 1451 L/kg.

Based on the available studies on biodegradation and read across to Coco fatty acids 2-sulfoethyl ester, sodium salt, SLI is considered to be readily biodegradable.

The 10-days-window criterion does not need to be evaluated as Coco fatty acids 2-sulfoethyl ester, sodium salt is a UVCB.

There is therefore no requirement for performing a soil biodegradation test (Annex IX. 9.2.1.3). No simulation tests for degradation rates under environmental conditions have been performed for the test substance, therefore for the default value suggested by REACH guidance R.16 is used. For 14C-Lauryl 2 -sulfoethyl ester a Koc of 1451 L/kg was observed which corresponds with a Kp soil of 29 L/kg. The default half-life in soil is therefore 30 days.
