Details on study design:
The test item was dispersed in water and was oxidized by potassium dichromate in strong sulfuric acid medium. Silver sulphate was used as the catalyst under reflux. Mercuric sulphate was added to reduce chloride interference.

Results and discussion

Preliminary study:
The preliminary test showed that a dispersion of 11.0 mg of IN-DBC80 in 100 ml of water had a COD value of 0.58 gram of oxygen to gram of test item.

The chemical oxygen demand of IN-DBC80 was determined to be 0.58 gram of oxygen to gram of test item. The relative standard deviation was 3.17%.

The COD determined for the standard reference solution (potassium hydrogen phthalate) was 486 mg/L. This resulted in a 97% recovery showing that the experimental procedure was satisfactory.
