Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 72h-ErC50 is > 400 mg a.i./L in a OECD guideline 201 test with Chlorella vulgaris under GLP (reliability 2). The 72h-NOErC is > 46.2 mg a.i./L in a OECD Guideline 201 test with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata under GLP (reliability 1). No effects were observed at the highest test concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
400 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
46.2 mg/L

Additional information

In a key study, the acute toxicity towards Chlorella vulgaris was investigated according to OECD Guideline 201 under GLP. Algae were exposed to nominal concentrations of 63, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 mg/l (25.2, 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/L based on active ingredient) for 72 hours and cell densities and biomass were measured. The 72h-EC50 for biomass and growth rate were found to be > 400 mg a.i./L.

In another study, the acute toxicity towards Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated according to OECD guideline 201 under GLP. The exposure concentrations were analytically verified. Algae were exposed to nominal concentrations of 7.5, 15, 30, 60 and 120 mg/l (2.9, 5.8, 11.6, 23.1 and 46.2 mg/L based on active ingredient) for 72 hours and cell densities were measured. The 72h-NOErC was found to be > 46.2 mg a.i./L.
