Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The flash point of members of this category have been measured in the range 71°C (C12) - 112°C (C16) indicating that flash point increases with carbon number. The flash point of C8 category members is therefore expected to be <71°C.

The flashpoint of 97280-83-6 is reported to be 71°C (Evonik 2008) and for tetrabutene is reported to be 112°C (Aqura 2006). These studies are non-GLP but follow a standard guideline and are considered reliable and acceptable for use as key studies for this endpoint. The flash point of C8 category members is expected to be<71°C.

Based on the available data, the mean of the flash point values for the category is 91.5°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.

The flashpoint of and boiling points of the category members indicates that members of this category with C12 and above would not be classified. As the available data cannot confirm whether the flash point would be >60°C, the C8 and below streams are classified as flammable liquid category 3.
