Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

OECD 201:
- (72h) ELR50 for freshwater algae: >1000 mg/l (test mat. 'Kerosine (Fischer-Tropsch), narrow-cut, C8-13, branched and linear' (WAFs) (nominal) based on: growth rate);
- (72hr) NOELR for freshwater algae: ≥100 mg/l (test mat. 'Kerosine (Fischer-Tropsch), narrow-cut, C8-13, branched and linear' (WAFs) (nominal) based on: growth rate).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of a sample of GTL Kerosine has been determined by Worden (2006) in a test with the unicellular alga Raphidocelis subcapitata. The tests were conducted in accordance with OECD Test Guidelines 201.WAFs of the sample were prepared in sealed vessels with minimum headspace by stirring for approximately 72 hours. The contents of the vessels were left to stand for 1-2 hours before drawing off the aqueous phase – the WAF – for testing. Static exposures were then carried out in completely full, sealed vessels. The tests were not subject to GLP and the test media were not analysed for stability or for exposure concentration. However in other respects they were considered to fulfil the requirements of current best practice.

The test results, expressed as the ELR50and NOELR values, showed that the sample was not acutely toxic to algae at a loading rate of 1000 mg/l. The NOELR was judged to be 100 mg/l based on growth rate by the authors of the report, however the 0-72 h decrease in growth rate was <10% at 1000 mg/l.

The following information is taken into account for toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria: (72-h) ErL50>1000 mg/l WAFs R. subcapitata (reliability 1).

Value used for CSA: ErL50for freshwater algae: >1000 mg/l (WAFs); NOELR for freshwater algae: ≥1000 mg/l (WAFs).
