The submission item is readily biodegradable. Hydrolysis will play a minor role in the environmental fate due to the fast biodegradation and is considered not relevant. In the air phototransformation due to indirect photolysis by hydroxyl radicals or reaction with ozone is expected with a half-life in the order of 1 h, while direct photolysis may be of little importance regarding the light absorption profile.

A decrease of the test item concentration was equally observed in all aquatic toxicity studies, i.e. the experiments on acute effects to algae (Vryenhoef & Mullee 2011, Harlan Report no. 41103269), daphnids (Goodband & Mullee 2012, Harlan Report no. 41103268) and fish (Goodband & Mullee (2012, Harlan Report no. 41103267). An additional sample without test organisms in the algal study showed comparable dissipation of the test item. This indicates that the decline observed was not due adsorption of the test item to the algal cells present. Nonetheless another possible explanation would be sorption to materials of the test system or biotic and/or abiotic degradation/instability.
