Description of key information

Both aqueous exposure bioconcentration tests, as well as dietary exposure bioaccumulation tests with Alcohols, C9 -11 -iso-, C10-rich (Isodecanol) and with Alcohols, C11 -14 -iso, C13 -rich (Isotridecanol), were conducted with the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. In the aqueous exposure, the trout reached steady-state within a 10 day (Isotridecanol) or 16 day (Isodecanol) exposure period. The calculated mean lipid normalized steady state BCF(ssl) values were 21 L/kg (Isodecanol) and 39 L/kg (Isotridecanol) wet fish weight. The calculated dietary, lipid-corrected BMF values were <= 0.016 (at 500 and 2500 ppm treatment levels) for both substances, with growth corrected whole body half-lives less than 0.6 days. These data are used as read-across for Alcohols, C9 -C11-branched.

Additional information

The registered substance, Alcohols, C9-11-branched (Isoundecanol), and the tested substances, Isodecanol and Isotridecanol, are part of a closely related group of products with structural similarity, made by the same manufacturing process. (Further detail is provided in assessment report for read-across.) Their structural and physicochemical properties follow an expected trend with C-chain length. The tested substances bracket Isoundecanol with respect to hydrophobicity and log Kow. As bioaccumulation is positively correlated with hydrophobicity, the BCF and BMF for Isoundecanol can be expected fall within the range listed above. Both the aqueous and dietary bioaccumulation studies indicate that these substances exhibit a low potential to bioaccumulate.
