Description of key information

In the acute immobilization test to Daphnia magna (STRAUS), the effects of the test item 2,3-Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with toluene-4-sulfonic acid were determined according to OECD 202 (2004).
The study was conducted under static conditions over a period of 48 h with 6 water accommodated fractions (WAF) of the test item. The nominal loadings in the range of 3.125 to 100 mg/L were prepared with dilution water in a geometric series with a dilution factor of 2. Twenty daphnids were exposed to each loading level and the control.
The water accommodated fractions with nominal loadings of the test item of 3.125 to 100 mg/L and the control were analytically verified by analysis of total organic carbon (TOC, according to DIN EN 1484) at the start of the exposure (fresh media, 0 h) and at the end of the exposure (old media, 48 h).
The measured concentrations of total organic carbon in the fresh media (0 h) were in the range of 2.85 to 18.3 mg Carbon/L in the loading levels 3.125 to 100 mg/L. In the old media (48 h), the measured concentrations of total organic carbon were in the range of 3.49 to 16.9 mg Carbon/L in the loading levels 3.125 to 100 mg/L.
All effect values given are based on the nominal loadings of the test item. Water quality parameters (pH-value and dissolved oxygen concentration), measured in the fresh (0 h) and old media (48 h), were within acceptable limits. The validity criteria of the test guideline were fulfilled.

Additional information

Based on the nominal loadings of the test item 2,3-Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with toluene-4-sulfonic acid, the 48-h EL50 for Daphnia magna was calculated to be 26.3 mg/L (95 % confidence limits: 23.9 – 30.3 mg/L). The NOEL after 48 h was 12.5 mg/L. The LOEL after 48 h was 25.0 mg/L.
