Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Name:
Butyl Bromide
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
Butyl Bromide
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

No specific biodegradation data is available for the substance itself.  In a ready biodegradability study on structural analogue, 1-bromopropane, 19.2 % biodegradation was achieved after 28 days and therefore 1-bromopropane cannot be classed as readily biodegradable.

No bioaccumulation data is available for the substance, however the substance is considered to have a low potential for bioaccumulation as the log Kow value is less than 4.5. The specified Log Kow is 2.75.  On this basis the substance is proposed to be not bioaccumulative and “B” criteria is not fulfilled.

No long term aquatic toxicity data is available for the substance except for acute data in algae and read across data for fish and Daphnia.  All have confirmed L(E)50 values greater than 0.1 mg/l and hence there is no potential to fulfil the T criterion in respect of aquatic effects data. On the basis of read across to the structural analogue, 1-bromopropane, the substance is classified as a reproductive toxicant (Category 1B). As such, the substance is identified as being toxic and fulfils the T criterion according to the Annex XIII PBT criteria.
