4.1       Description of First Aid Measures

Ingestion:       Harmful if swallowed. Wash out mouth with water, provided person is conscious. Get medical attention immediately.

Skin contact:       Corrosive to skin. Causes burns. May cause an allergic skin reaction. Immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with plenty of running water. Get medical attention immediately.

Eye contact:       Causes severe eye damage. Rinse eye immediately with plenty of low pressure water for at least 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses. Get medical attention immediately.

Inhalation:       May cause serious damage to the respiratory tract. Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Get medical attention immediately.

      First Aider Protection:       None specific.

4.2       Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

      Ingestion:       Harmful when ingested.

Skin contact:       Corrosive to skin. May cause an allergic skin reaction

Eye contact:       Causes severe eye damage

Inhalation:       May cause serious damage to the respiratory tract

4.3

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

General advice:       Notes to physician: Treat symptomatically. Contact a poison treatment specialist if large quantities have been ingested or inhaled or have come in contact with skin or eyes

Fire-fighting measures

SECTION 5: Fire-Fighting Measures

5.1       Extinguishing media        (small and large fires)

Small Fire:       foam, dry powder, CO2

Large Fire:       foam, dry powder, CO2, water spray/fog

Avoid:       Do never use straight streams of water

5.2.1       Specific Hazards:       Combustion generates toxic fumes (Cox, Nox).

Use flooding quantities of water to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Containers may explode in the heat of a fire. Apply water from as far a distance as possible. If safe firefighting is impossible: withdraw from area and let fire burn.

5.2.2       Protective equipment and advice for fire fighters:       Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Clothing for fire-fighters (including helmets, protective boots and gloves) conforming to European standard EN 469 will provide a basic level of protection for chemical incidents.

Accidental release measures

SECTION 6: Accidental Release Measures

6.1       Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency measures

6.1.1       For non-emergency personnel:       No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section 8).

6.1.2       For emergency responders:       If specialised clothing is required to deal with the spillage, take note of any information in Section 8 on suitable and unsuitable materials. See also the information in "For non-emergency personnel".

6.2       Environmental precautions:       Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers.

6.3       Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

6.3.1       For containment:       Small spill: Move containers from spill area. Absorb spill with inert material. Place spill with shovel in a designated, labeled waste container without creating dust. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Large spill: Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas. Absorb spill with inert material. Place spill with shovel in a designated, labeled waste container without creating dust. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Note: see Section 1 for emergency contact information and Section 13 for waste disposal.

6.3.2       For cleaning up:       See Section 6.3.1

6.3.3       Other information:       Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.

6.4

Reference to other sections:       See Section 1 for emergency contact information.

See Section 8 for information on appropriate personal protective equipment.

See Section 13 for additional waste treatment information.

Handling and storage

SECTION 7: Handling and Storage

7.1       Precautions for Safe Handling:       Protective measures:

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section 8). Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Do not get in eyes or on skin. Do not ingest or inhale. Avoid release to the environment. Keep in the original container or an approved alternative made from a compatible material, kept tightly closed when not in use. Empty containers retain product residue and can be dangerous. Do not reuse container.

Use only in a well-ventilated area. Ground and bond containers when transferring material. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames.

Advice on general occupational hygiene: Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. See also Section 8 for additional information on hygiene measures.

7.2       Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:       Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials (see Section 10) and food and drink. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabeled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. Store below 35 degrees C.

7.3       Specific end uses:       As intermediate for further processing

Dermal              3.16 mg/kg bw/day       1.13 mg/kg bw/day

Inhalation              11.2 mg/m3              1.97 mg/m3

Exposure scenario’s for the uses as mentioned in section 1.2 have been calculated using CHESAR 3.4.0. Only with the following risk management measures and operational controls the risk characterisation ratio’s are below 1:

•       The substance must be in a solid, non- or low dusty form
