Based on an adsorption coefficient (Koc) of greater than 4.27x105 (determined using EU Method C.19) and results of distribution modeling of NExBTL renewable diesel components, the test material would be expected to show a tendency to sorb to sedimentary or soil organic carbon. Following release to water, over 99 % of NExBTL would migrate to sediments whereas emissions to soil and air lead to its appearance in soil. However results from an OECD 301B CO2 evolution test, information from the literature and modeling experiments consistently demonstrate that in the environment it will be rapidly and readily biodegradable. Abiotic degradation, in contrast, is not expected to be significant. Due to its lipophilicity (Log Kow > 6.5), NExBTL renewable diesel has some potential for bioaccumulation however this will be reduced by its susceptibility to biodegradation.
