Additional information

In a standard guideline study the acute toxicity of diethylene glycol phenyl ether (DiEPh) to the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss was assessed. The study was conducted with two replicate vessels with five fish per test level exposed to nominal test concentrations of 0 (water control), 37.5, 75.0, 150, 300, 600, and 1200 mg/L, over a 96-hour static exposure period. The fish were observed at approximately 24, 48,72, and 96 hours for mortality and sublethal effects. Temperature during the exposure period was maintained at 13°C. Dissolved oxygen levels ranged from 7.5-9.9 mg/L (73-96% oxygen saturation). The pH ranged from 7.4-8.1 and the light intensity ranged from 753-996 lux. Analytical verification of test solutions concentrations was performed on samples collected on days 0 and 4 of the study. Measured concentrations ranged from 101 to 102% of nominal on both day 0 and day 4. The resulting mean measured treatment concentrations were 38.1, 76.3, 153, 305, 611, 1217 mg/L. The results, based on mean measured concentrations, were as follows:

1). 24-, 48-, 72-, and 96-hour LC50 = 432 mg/L (95% confidence interval of 305-611 mg/L)

2). 96-hour NOEC = 305 mg/L

This substance is not considered as harmful to freshwater fish
