Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

For the ecotoxicological studies:

Persistence assessment: The test substance does not meet the criteria of P or vP because it is readily biodegradable. In a standard biodegradation screening test based on OECD guideline 301F, biodegradation of Di-EPh was observed.  The extent of DiEPh biodegradation based on BOD, CO2evolution, and DOC removal reached 100.5 ± 1.1%, 87.0 ± 0.3%, and 95.3 ± 0.6%, (mean ± 1 SD), respectively, at the end of the 28-day test. Thus, the biodegradation of DiEPh achieved both the pass level and 10-day window criteria for classification as readily biodegradable in the Manometric Respirometry Test.

Bioaccumulation assessment: The test substance does not meet the criteria of B and vB. The substance has a low potential to bioaccumulate because of its low log Pow value (0.8). Screening criteria for bioaccumulation states that test substances with log Pow values ≤ 4.5 are not B and not vB.

Toxicity Assessment: The 96-hour LC50 for fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) was 432 mg/L.

The 48-hour EC50 for freshwater invertebrate (Daphnia magna) was 906 mg/L. The 72-hour ErC50 (based on growth rate) for freshwater algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) was determined to be 393 mg/L. Because these aquatic toxicity endpoints are more than 3000-fold higher than the 0.1 mg/L threshold for toxicity (T), the test substance is not T.
