Description of key information

A full aquatic dataset is available for the test substance.


 


No short-term or long-term fish studies are available for Dicetylperoxydicarbonate.  Data from the closely related material Dimyristiylperoxydicarbonate are used to fill these endpoints. Due to the physical chemical properties of these substances being similar and the similarity in aquatic toxicity profile it is considered justified to read across to the existing short-term and long-term fish endpoint for Dimyristiylperoxydicarbonate.


One standard OECD 203 study is available for the closely related material Dimyristiylperoxydicarbonate. In this study the LC50 was not reached and was therefore higher than the highest tested concentration of 1000 mg/L. This result is supported by an OECD 236 for Dimyristiylperoxydicarbonate as well as an OECD 236 with Dicetylperoxydicarbonate.


The toxicity of the closely related substance Dimyristiylperoxydicarbonate was tested in the Early-Life Stage Toxicity Test with Danio rerio under semi-static conditions according to OECD 210 (2013). Fish were exposed for 35 days to a range of test concentrations up to 320 µg/L, nominal (403 µg/L mean measured). No significant effect was seen of the test substance on any of the followed endpoints up to the highest tested concentration of 403 µg/L (mean measured concentration).


Therefore NOEC >= 403 µg/L.


The test substance was concluded as not acutely or chronically toxic to fish at its solubility limit in the test media.


 


The acute toxicity of the test chemical to Daphnia Magna prepared as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) was determined according to OECD 202 in a semi-static system over an exposure period of 48 hours at a loading concentration of 100 mg/L. The EL50 (48h) was > 100 mg/L (Loading).


Also chronic toxicity was determined in a flow-through system with 1 g (loading) according to OECD 211 over a period of 21 days. No effects on reproduction were observed and therefore NOELR (21d)≥ water solubility limit (1 g loading).


The test substance was concluded as not acutely or chronically toxic to Daphnia at its solubility limit in the test media.


 


The toxicity of the test chemical to an exponentially growing culture of P. subcapitata was determined as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) over an exposure period of 72 hours. A nominal loading concentration of 100 mg/L as a limit test was conducted.


No significant statistical difference in growth rate or biomass was detected in comparison to the control, therefore ErL50 (72h) > 100 mg/L (loading) and NOELR (72h)≥ 100 mg/L (loading).


The test substance was concluded as not toxic to algae at its solubility limit in the test medium.


 


Toxicity to microorganisms was determined as well in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test was performed according to OECD 209.


The EC50 (3h) of the substance for activated sludge is > 1220 mg/L. The substance is therefore considered harmless to activated sludge.


 


Considering the ready biodegradability, lack of detectable toxicity the test substance and low water solubility, the substance is not expected to present a hazard to the aquatic environment.
