Trimethylenediamine is readily biodegradable (BASF AG 2003; Study no. 02/0218/21/1; Eide-Haugmo et al., 2012).

Additional information

Trimethylenediamine (CAS 109 -76 -2, TDA) proved to be readily biodegradable in a DOC-Die Away Test according to OECD 301A (BASF AG 2003; Study no. 02/0218/21/1). The study was performed under GLP. Activated sludge from an STP treating predominantly domestic sewage was used as inoculum. The substance was degraded to 96% after 14 d.

Eide-Haugmo et al. (2009/2012) studied the biodegradability of TDA in seawater according to OECD 306. In 2009, a biodegradability of approximately 40% was observed, while in 2012 a higher biodegradation of 71.9% BOD of ThOD was stated. Therefore, it can be concluded that TDA is readily biodegradable in freshwater and in seawater.
