Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, short-term toxicity to invertebrates- arthropodes (required in section 9.4.1) does not need to be conducted as based on the physico-chemical properties of HBED-Fe, it is not expected that adsorption to soils or sediments will be of significance.

The substance is expected to have a low potential absorption to sediment (measured Koc is 15.33 L/kg). Together with the high water solubility (> 10 g/L) the substance is expected to be very mobile in the aqueous phase and will not adsorb to sediment and soil. Thus, no bioaccumulation in the environment is expected. According to its physico-chemical properties HBED-Fe (very low Pow and high water solubility) is not expected to be distributed into soil. In view of the expected negligible adsorption of HBED-Fe to soil it can be assumed that in such tests the exposure via soil does not differ significantly from that to HBED-Fe in the (pore) water and that hazards resulting from uptake of soil can be excluded. Therefore, no further testing of toxicity to soil invertebrates- arthropodes is needed.
