Diisopentyl ether is characterised as “not readily biodegradable”.

Additional information

The biodegradation of diisopentyl ether was tested in accordance with OECD 301C (modified MITI test). The study is valid and conclusive.

Activated sludge (30 mg/l) was exposed to 100 mg/L diisopentyl ether for 14 days. The study was performed using three replicates at a temperature of approximately 25°C. The degradation of the test substance was surveyed by measuring the oxygen consumption and analysing the test material by GC. The degradation of the test substance over the period of 14 days was 8% according to BOD and 2% according to GC analysis. It was therefore concluded that diisopentyl ether is not readily biodegradable under the test conditions.
