PBT assessment

Currently viewing:

Administrative data

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence

Diisopentyl ether is considered as hydrolytical stable and is not ready biodegradable. Therefore, based on the data currently available, diisopentyl ether is considered as potentially persistent in the environment as a worst-case assessment.

Bioaccumulation

Based on results from a valid fish bioconcentration study the substance is considered to not fulfil the B criteria for PBT assessment.

Toxicity

The measured acute L(E)C50 values in studies with fish, daphnids and algae are higher than the screening criterion of 0.1 mg/l. It can therefore be expected that diisopentyl ether does not fulfill the criteria for aquatic toxicity. Diisopentyl ether is not classified as being a CMR and there is no evidence that it is chronically toxic towards mammals. Therefore diisopentyl ether is not assigned as toxic.

Overall conclusion on PBT assessment

Although the criteria for P or vP are met, diisopentyl ether is not B/vB or T. Therefore, overall the substance may be considered as not PBT/vPvB.
