Description of key information

On the basis of read across, toxicity is not expected at the limit of solubilty.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

Experimental data are not available for hexacos-1-ene. In the absence of data for hexacos-1-ene, data have been read across from category members with a lower carbon number.

Thompson and Swigert (1995) and Hudson (1999) tested the toxicity of tetradec-1-ene and Douglas and Halls (1993) and Hudson (1999) tested the toxicity of hexadec-1-ene to algae. Due to the low solubility of the test substances test organisms were exposed to water accommodated fractions (WAF) and exposure concentrations were expressed as a loading rate. The 48 and 72 hour EL50 was >1000 mg/L WAF.

These results indicate that we would not expect hexacos-1-ene to exhibit toxicity to algae at exposure concentrations up to its limit of solubility.
