Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation test data indicate that the registered substance, reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated is readily biodegradable (e.g., >60% biodegradation in 28 days) but does not meet the 10-day window in standard OECD ready biodegradability test guidelines. In addition, there are experimental supporting data indicating that two of the main components, 1-decene dimer, hydrogenated (CAS No. 68649-11-6) and 1-decene dimer with dodecene dimer, hydrogenated (CAS No. 151006-58-5) as well as other structurally related polyalphaolefin (PAO) materials [in the ~ 2.8 cst viscosity and ~C24 carbon-number range] are also readily biodegradable (greater than 60% in 28 days, see table above) but do not meet the 10-day window. In accord with ECHA-REACH guidelines, the test substance, the reaction products of 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-octene, hydrogenated, is considered “readily biodegradable” since it consists of a mixture of homologous or isomeric components in which the 10-day window is not applicable [see pg. 177 of ECHA Guidance on Information Requirement and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.7b (ECHA 2008a) and pg. 8 of the OECD Guideline for Degradation Testing (OECD 2006)]. As determined by ECHA, materials that are readily biodegradable in freshwater are expected to be rapidly biodegraded in other environmental compartments (ECHA Guidance, Chapter R.7b).
