Description of key information

Low potential for adsorption.

For environmental exposure assessment, adsorption is predicted using the TGD (Technical Guidance Document) ‘non-hydrophobics’ log Kow prediction method (European Commission, 2003).

Log Koc = 1.48 (Koc of 30.8) for the silanol hydrolysis product.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
30.8

Additional information

Trimethoxy(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)silane hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water to the corresponding silanol hydrolysis product (2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)silanetriol and methanol, which both have low log Kow values (< 3), and thus have low potential for adsorption. Therefore, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the adsorption/desorption screening test does not need to be conducted, and there is no need for further information on adsorption/desorption.
