Explanation for the modification of the dose descriptor starting point:

DNEL calculated from route-to-route extrapolation from combined chronic repeated dose toxicity/carcinogenicity study with a NOAEL of 4 mg/kg bw/day. This oral rat NOAEL is converted to an inhalation rat NOAEC by using a default respiratory volume for the rat corresponding to 8 h of human exposure (0.38 m³/kg bw) and by application of a factor 2 for route to route extrapolation. The resulting rat NOAEC is converted into a inhalation worker NOAEC by correction for respiratory rate based on activity (6.7 m³ for normal light activity versus 10 m³ for worker activity) and by correction for 5 day exposure (7 days versus 5 days): 4*(1/0.38)*(6.7/10)*(1/2)*7/5 = 4.93 mg/m³.

Explanation for the modification of the dose descriptor starting point:

In accordance with ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment – Chapter 8: Characterisation of dose [concentration]-response for human health, a DNEL for Acute-inhalation, systemic effects should be derived if an acute toxicity hazard (leading to C&L) has been identified and there is a potential risk for high peak exposures. Since in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, an acute inhalation study does not need to be conducted, as the substance is classified as corrosive to skin and the test substance is not volatile (at 25 °C vapour pressure < 0.00014 Pa), no short-term DNELs need to be derived for this route of exposure.

Additional information - General Population

Branched triamine C16 -18 is only applied in professional or industrial setting in asphalt applications applying adequate PPE. Use results to the inclusion into or onto a matrix. Consumers/general population will not be exposed. However, in order to be able to evaluate possible secondary exposures via environment, additionally long-term systemic DNELs for general population have been derived.
