Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
Acute toxicity in mice: Thymol was given by i.p. injection to 6 groups of 3-6 adult Swiss mice each (sex at random). The doses ranged from 33.3 to 223 mg/kg body weight for commercial tymol. Mortality and sequential effects during 3 days were determined.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

Acute toxicity in mice: Thymol was given by i.p. injection to 6 groups of 3-6 adult Swiss mice each (sex at random). The doses ranged from 33.3 to 223 mg/kg body weight for commercial tymol. Mortality and sequential effects during 3 days were determined.

The approximate 3 days LD50 was 110 mg/kg bw for thymol
