Additional information

Dimethyl maleate is stable to hydrolysis at 25 °C at pH 4. At pH 7 the half-life is 81.5 days at 25 °C; at pH 9 it is 14.5 hours.

Taking into account the fast and rather complete degradation in 3 Zahn-Wellens tests and the readily biodegradability of the analogue compound diethyl maleate, it is considered that dimethyl maleate is readily biodegradable.

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of dimethyl maleate, determined by the HPLC-method, is <17.8, the log10 Koc <1.25.

The results indicate that the test item has a low adsorption potential to soil and sediment and a high mobility in the environment.
