Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The key study was performed to OECD 301 C Modified MITI Test. The test material was tested at a concentration of 100 mg/L and the inoculum was activated sludge (mixed liquor suspended solids: 3550 mg/L). The degradation of the test substance was assessed by the determination of Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) for 28 days and measurements of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and residual test substance (by gas chromatography) on Day 28. The test treatment was measured in triplicate and one vessel for each of activity control (aniline + sludge + basal medium), abiotic control (test substance + deionised water) and inoculum blank (sludge + basal medium) were taken.

The average biodegradation values of DMBA were 6, 15 and 12 %, based on BOD, DOC and residual test substance, respectively. From the degradability results based on the BOD, it was concluded that the test substance is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the modified MITI test. It was suggested that degradation of the test substance continued in one of three test vessels. Therefore, once microorganisms were acclimated and biodegradation was started, the test substance may be degraded completely without making transformed products. However, it would be required much time to degrade the test substance completely.
