Description of key information

The EU RAR reviews and summarises the results of five short-term fish toxicity studies peformed with four species of freshwater fish exposed to sodium fluoride. It is noted that all tests considered to be reliable were performed in soft water and all endpoints are expressed in terms of fluoride anion equivalents. Short term LC50 endpoints for fish exposed in soft-water to sodium fluoride range from 51 (2,68 mmol/l) to 340 mg fluoride anion per liter. This is equivalent to a range of 133 to 888 mg of WF6 per liter. Please note that WF6 is hydrolizing rapidly into HF and WOx compounds, when exposed to moisture. WF6 is not intended to get in contact with any environmental compartment and these values should be considered as only hypotheticaly.
