Description of key information

The half life period of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in water is 15 days and based on this value it can be concluded that the chemical is not persistent in water medium since the half  life is less than the threshold of 60 days (to qualify the chemical as persistent). Also the diffusion percentage of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in water medium is 24 %. This coupled with the dilution of water shall result in ready biodegradabililty of the chemical.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

No. of studies of target substance 5-nitrosalicylic acid reviewed for Biodegradation in water: screening tests from reliable sources having Klimisch rating 2.

The summary of the results are presented below

Half life

ready biodegradability

50% degradation in 15 days

Test mat. analysis

Predicted data from PBT profiler

ready biodegradability

51.66% degradation

O2 consumption

Predicted data from QSAR

By applying weight of evidence approach the target chemical found to be readily biodegradable with 50% to 51.66% percentage degradation. Thus it is concluded that 5-nitrosalicylic acid is biodegradable in water.
