MAPTAC (50% aqueous solution) is reported to be a yellowish, almost odourless liquid at 20°C and 1013 hPa.

The melting point of MAPTAC is 54°C at 1018 hPa. No boiling point could be determined for MAPTAC due to decomposition between 230 and 300°C at 1018 hPa.

The density of MAPTAC (50% aqueous solution) is reported to be 1.0589 g/cm³ at 20°C.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, a granulometry test does not need to be conducted as the substance is used only in aqueous solution.

A study on vapour pressure is technically not feasible (REACH Regulation, Annex XI, 2): The calculated vapour pressure of 2.52E-07 Pa at 25°C (Mackay Method, Epiwin 4.1) is outside of the specifications of the usual methods. In addition, the substance is manufactured and handled as a solution in water, therefore only the vapour pressure of the solvent (water) would be measured. The vapour pressure is below the lowest value used by Chesar for calculation (0.01 Pa), thus 0.001 Pa was used as key value for chemical safety assessment.

A study on the n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow) is technically not feasible (REACH Regulation, Annex XI, 2; Annex VII, 7.8, column II) as MAPTAC fully dissociates in water. The log Kow of MAPTAC estimated by calculation is -2.58 (Epiwin 4.1 KOWWIN v1.68).

MAPTAC is reported to be miscible with water; a calculation of water solubility based on the density of 1.0589 g/cm³ results in a water solubility of ca. 1059 g/mL (> 1000000 g/L).

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, surface tension testing does not need to be conducted. Based on structure, no surface activity is expected. The test substance is not used as detergent.

No flash point was detected for MAPTAC: During the preliminary test the sample started boiling at a temperature of about 100°C due to the high percentage of water. For this reason the analysis had to be aborted, a flash point was not detected up to this temperature.

The self-ignition temperature of MAPTAC (50% aqueous solution) is reported to be 370°C at 1004 hPa.

A study on flammability is technically not feasibly (REACH regulation Annex XI, 2) as the substance manufactured and handled as a solution in water. And according to REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), the study on flammability does not need to be conducted if the available data are sufficient for assessment. For the substance tests on flash point and auto-ignition are available. Pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected based on a consideration of the structure of the substance.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, explosive properties testing does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in the molecule.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH regulation annex VII, oxidising properties testing does not need to be conducted on the basis of chemical structure.

In accordance with column 1 of REACH regulation annex IX, stability in organic solvents testing is not required as stability of the substance is not considered critical. The test substance has no particular reactivity towards typical solvents and is not used in solution.

According to REACH Annex IX, 7.16, column 2 the testing of the dissociation constant is scientifically not justified, as substance is a zwitterion which has no acid-base properties (at environmental relevant pH) and which is fully dissociated in aqueous solution into a quaternary ammonium ion and the chloride counter ion.

The kinematic viscosity of MAPTAC (50% aqueous solution) is reported to be 8.17 mm²/s.
