Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The substance (NBDI, an aliphatic diisocyanate) reacts with water. From this reaction, the diamine NBDA is formed and CO2.

Available data about the conversion rate of NBDI to NBDA in water: after 3 hours a conversion rate of 60-85% was shown (depending on the initial concentration). It has been shown, in the environmental studies, that NBDA is hydrolytically stable and that the parent compound (NBDI) is not. Based on this information (e.g. half-life NBDI less than 12 hours; NBDI is not present in the environment), it is considered justified to conclude that the CSA for the environment needs to based on NBDA. The key values for the CSA are therefore the key values applicable for NBDA:

-96h-LC50 for freshwater fish: >82 mg NBDA/L

-48h-EC50 for freshwater invertebrates: 42 mg NBDA/L

-72h-ErC50 for freshwater algae: 19.1 mg NBDA/L

-3h-EC50 for STP micro-organisms: 14.7 mg NBDA/L
