Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the toxicity to soil microorganisms.

Data on the toxicity of 6-methyl-2-oxoperhydropyrimidin-4-yl urea to soil microorganisms are not available. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex IX, column 2, 9.4 studies on terrestrial organisms do not need to be conducted when there is no risk indicated by the chemical safety assessment.

The bioavailability of 6-methyl-2-oxoperhydropyrimidin-4-yl urea for soil organisms is expected to be very low. The substance is readily biodegradable thus transfer of the substance to soil or persistence in soil is not likely. Furthermore the substance urea is characterised by a low log Koc indicating a low potential of the substance to adsorb to soil particles and suspended matter and to accumulate in soils. Accumulation of the substance in organisms is also unlikely as indicated by the low log Kow. Thus acute or chronic effects of the substance to terrestrial organisms are not expected. The conclusion is supported by available data on the toxicity of the structurally related substance N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9) to earthworms. In a test following OECD guideline 207 a LC50 (14 d) of 648 mg/kg was determined for Eisenia fetida.
