The evaluation of short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is based on the results of two studies investigating the effect of 6-methyl-2-oxoperhydropyrimidin-4-yl and of the structural analogue N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9) respectively.

The acute toxicity of 6-methyl-2-oxoperhydropyrimidin-4-yl was determined in a screening study set up according to EEC Directive 93/32/EEC (BASF AG, 2004). Daphnia magna were exposed to the test substance for 48 hours in a static test system. At test termination an EC50 > 100 mg/L was recorded.

A comparable result was obtained by a study on the close structural analogue N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9). The data were included in the evaluation as part of a read across approach. This is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of substance and read across approach. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13. The short-term toxicity of N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9) was tested in study conducted according to Directive 84/449/EEC, C.2 (BASF AG, 1986). Daphnia magna were exposed to the test substance for 48 hours. During the test period the mobility of test organisms was observed. Based on nominal test substance concentrations an EC50 of 500 mg/L was determined.
