The use of the substance mercury is restricted by Regulation (EU) 2017/852 of the European Parliament and of the Council*, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006**, Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council*** and Directive 2006/66/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council****, with the effect that the use of mercury is severely restricted for industrial use.

Regulation (EU) 2017/852 prohibits the export of mercury, certain mixtures of metallic mercury with other substances, certain mercury compounds and certain mercury-added products. Those export bans are reflected in Part 2 of Annex V to Regulation (EU) No 649/2012 (OJ L 201, 27.7.2012, p. 60-106).

Furthermore, the export of all mixtures of mercury is prohibited for the purpose of reclaiming mercury.
