Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds are listed in Annex III to the Rotterdam Convention and are included in Annex I to Regulation (EU) No 649/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 concerning the export and import of hazardous chemicals (OJ L 201, 27.7.2012, p. 60–106).

The manufacturing, placing on the market and use of the substance perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds is severely restricted in the category “industrial chemical”.
PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds are listed in Annex I to the Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on persistent organic pollutants (OJ L 169 25.6.2019, p. 45-77).
After 4 July 2020, the manufacturing, placing on the market and use of PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds is only allowed for the exemptions described in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. The exemptions have been updated by the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/115 (OJ L 36, 2.2.2021, p. 7–9) .
