Additional information

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines EU Method A.10 and UN No. ST/SG/AC. 10/11/Rev.5 Test N.1 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the principles for assessing data quality set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

A preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of the test material. A flame of a gas burner was applied to one end of a test material pile until the test material ignited. The pile was visually interpreted for propagation of combustion either by burning with a flame or smouldering. If applicable, the time of burning over a distance of 200 mm was measured after the pile had burned a distance of 50 mm.

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test material pile. The test material melted, burned with an orange yellow flame and turned into a grey residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds and no propagation of combustion was observed.

Under the conditions of this study the test material was considered to be not highly flammable.

In accordance with Section 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary, as based upon the chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected; furthermore, experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.

In accordance with Section 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as, based upon the chemical structure, water activity is not to be expected; this has been corroborated by the practical handling and use of the chemical over time.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
