Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The substance is not flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the substance was tested under GLP in accordance with UN Test N.1. The test substance was formed into an unbroken train of material, approximately 250 mm long, on a non-combustible, impervious, low heat-conducting base plate. Tests were carried out to investigate the burning characteristics of the sample using an air-rich Bunsen burner flame as the ignition source. A preliminary screening test was conducted to determine whether or not the sample ignites and propagates combustion over 200 mm within 2 minutes, either by burning with a flame or by smouldering.

As the test substance melted, charred and ignited on application of the ignition source, but self-extinguished rapidly on its removal and did not propagate combustion and the burning time over 200mm could not be determined, a full study was not required.

Description of key information

Non-flammable (GLP, UN Test N.1)

Based on experience during the handling of the substance, the substance is not pyrophoric and does not release flammable gases in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The flammability study according to UN Test N.1 produced a negative result. The substance does not meet the criteria for classification as a flammable solid according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
